Arsenal officially bought Piero Hincapie permanently
Arsenal has completed the permanent purchase of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, with the player set to officially join on July 1.
Arsenal has activated the buyout clause for defensive player Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen. Hincapie joined Arsenal on loan at the end of last summer's transfer season, and the North London team has the option to buy the player outright. Now, Arsenal has exercised this right, meaning that the 24-year-old player, currently serving for the Ecuadorian national team at the World Cup, will officially join the team on July 1. Hincapie is one of Bayer Leverkusen's pillars in the 2023-24 season, when the team won a double domestic title under the guidance of coach Xabi Alonso. In the 2025-26 season, Hincapie made 39 appearances for Arsenal, helping coach Mikel Arteta's team win the Premier League championship. Although he usually plays as a centre-back at Leverkusen, under Arteta he is mainly deployed as a left-back. In a total of 2,763 minutes of playing time for Arsenal, Hincapie spent 68% of his time as a left-back and 32% as a centre-back.
