Barcelona extends the contract with Andreas Christensen until 2028
FC Barcelona has extended the contract with defender Andreas Christensen until 2028, which includes a clause allowing the contract to be terminated if he does not play at least 30% of the matches in the first season.
FC Barcelona has officially announced a two-year contract extension with defender Andreas Christensen until 2028. Club president Joan Laporta personally pushed for Christensen's contract extension after the Danish defender suffered a serious injury that forced him to miss the second half of last season, when his old contract was about to expire.
The condition of the new contract is that, although Christensen has signed a two-year contract extension, Barcelona have protected themselves with an important clause. If the defender does not appear in at least 30% of Barcelona's official matches in the first season of the contract, the club will have the right to unilaterally terminate the second year of the contract, according to newspaper MARCA.

Barcelona will still have to pay Christensen a small compensation, but they will not be forced to fulfill the contract for a second season. Whether this clause applies will depend largely on Christensen's physical condition. The Danish international star has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, which has limited his ability to play. However, if he maintains his fitness, achieving the required number of appearances will not be too difficult. After all, Christensen is highly appreciated by coach Hansi Flick for his diverse abilities, technique and tactical intelligence.
In addition, due to not participating in the World Cup, Christensen will be available from the beginning of the season when the team returns to training on July 13, which gives him valuable time to restore fitness and consolidate his position ahead of the new season.
Financially, Christensen has accepted a significant salary reduction in the new agreement. His guaranteed salary has been reduced by about half compared to previous seasons. However, the contract includes a series of performance-based bonuses, which could see the former Chelsea star earn close to his previous salary if he achieves specific targets.
