Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah had to leave the field in the match against Iran with a 1-1 draw due to an injury in his left knee, according to an announcement from coach Hossam Hassan. In the 57th minute, Salah was surprisingly replaced by Mostafa Zico. Coach Hassan said Salah is being evaluated by the team's medical team and there will be another test when Egypt returns to the team hotel. "I talked to Salah and he said he would recover and it was not a serious injury. We still have time to talk to the medical team. I thought he would return, and when I talked to Salah, he confirmed he would recover," coach Hassan said. With the draw result, Egypt completed coach Hassan's goal of passing the group stage for the first time. However, it will be a big loss for Egypt if Salah cannot play in the knockout round against Australia next Friday. The 34-year-old striker scored the 68th goal of his international career in the Pharaohs' first win at a World Cup, a 3-1 win over New Zealand. Salah also provided two assists for other goals in the tournament.
