Spain winger Yeremy Pino is at risk of missing the rest of the World Cup, while there are also injury concerns for Nico Williams. Pino and Williams were in trouble after coming on as second-half substitutes, for Alex Baena and Lamine Yamal respectively, in Spain's 1-0 win over Uruguay in Guadalajara on Friday. Pino has a collarbone injury and Williams has a groin problem.

"Pino could miss the rest of the World Cup," Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said in his post-match press conference. "It's a collarbone injury. We'll do more tests tomorrow. He suffered a lot, it was heroic how he helped us until the end." Both Pino and Williams, both 23, are expected to undergo tests on Saturday, while Spain waits to learn the extent of their injuries.

There are concerns from sources close to the Spain dressing room that both attackers could miss the remainder of the tournament. If either or both of these players are eliminated from the World Cup, Spain will not be able to call up replacement players. FIFA's deadline to do this is 24 hours before the team's first match of the tournament.

Friday's win over Uruguay saw Spain enter the next round as Group H winners, having drawn with Cape Verde in their opening match before beating Saudi Arabia. De La Fuente's side will face Group J runners-up, possibly Austria or Algeria, in the round of 32 in Los Angeles on June 2. Spain paid dearly for their final group match. De La Fuente's team secured top spot in Group H and a place in the knock-out round with a 1-0 win over Uruguay, but what happens after the final whistle will have a major impact on their chances at the tournament.

With Pino and Williams likely to be unavailable, Spain's options on the flanks will be severely limited. De La Fuente has played Baena and Yamal on the wings in the last two matches. Both players are expected to keep their places in the next round, although Yamal will still only get limited playing time having just returned from a hamstring injury just before the start of the World Cup.

Concerns increase when looking at the bench. De La Fuente has called up Victor Munoz, Liverpool's new signing, to provide reliable support in this position, but the former Osasuna player also suffered a calf injury in the early weeks of the World Cup. He has not played a single minute and his return to action is expected to be managed very carefully. This leaves Ferran Torres as the only player available from the bench. However, the Barcelona player is not in the best form. He lacked precision in the tournament and had big chances missed, like in Spain's shock draw with Cape Verde. He also missed big chances against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

There is still hope, and Spain are waiting for tests and diagnoses for all injured players on Saturday to know the extent of their injuries.
