Club Brugge has just announced that goalkeeper Dani van den Heuvel will leave on a free basis. The Dutch goalkeeper has expired his contract with the Belgian champions, where he has played since 2024. Van den Heuvel (23 years old) made 14 appearances for Club Brugge last season and was also in goal in the championship deciding match against KV Mechelen (2-2). In that match, the former talented young player of ADO Den Haag and Ajax made a serious mistake with the second goal, but one point was enough for Club Brugge to win their twentieth national championship. At Club Brugge, Van den Heuvel had to compete with goalkeeper Nordin Jackers to win the reserve position for veteran goalkeeper Simon Mignolet (38 years old). Mignolet, a former Liverpool goalkeeper, has suffered many injuries this season and has missed many matches. Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko used the Jackers 27 times during the season. Mignolet has now officially ended his playing career. Van den Heuvel's adventure at Club Brugge ended after two years, after he made his debut in the Champions League last December against Arsenal (0-3). Before joining the Belgian top club, Van den Heuvel spent four seasons at Leeds United, where he played for the U21 and U23 teams, but did not have the opportunity to play for the first team.
