The former England striker supports Curtis Jones leaving Liverpool

Former England striker Emile Heskey has expressed support for Curtis Jones in leaving Liverpool this summer, claiming that the midfielder's contract situation points to the possibility of an early exit. Heskey compared Jones to Scott McTominay, who made a remarkable move from Manchester United to Napoli, as an example of how a move to Serie A could boost Jones' career.

Speaking to Live Football Tickets, Heskey said: "I would be very surprised if he doesn't push for a new contract. There's something that makes me think they're not willing to give him what he wants. Either they're not willing to extend a new contract, or they're not willing to give him what he wants."

Regarding Jones' qualities and ambitions, Heskey was complimentary. "He aspires to become a regular in the England team," he said. "He needs to play regularly, and I think he can become a key player for England, but needs to play regularly at his club. Look at Scott McTominay, he went to Italy and was praised for that. It really changed the way people saw him as a player. I think Curtis has the ability to do that. He has great potential, has leadership ability and can play in many different positions."

McTominay's career was in danger of stagnating in the Premier League, but the transfer from Manchester United to Napoli completely reversed the situation. Since arriving in Italy, McTominay has won the Scudetto and was named the league's best player for the 24/25 season. Inter Milan is currently the leading team in the race to sign Curtis Jones, who has one year left on his contract with Liverpool.
