Dirk Kuijt left FC Dordrecht to join Fenerbahçe

Dirk Kuijt officially said goodbye to FC Dordrecht last Monday. The head coach will take up the position at Fenerbahçe, and the club from Keuken Kampioen Divisie will receive a large fee for the deal.

Kuijt's departure was predicted in advance. The former Dutch international will work as assistant to the new technical director of the Turkish top club. Although Kuijt, who has been with FC Dordrecht since last year, has reached a personal agreement, the two clubs are yet to agree terms.

The first training session of the new season had to be postponed. On Monday, Kuijt visited Dordrecht to say a few words before quickly leaving because of a flight he had to catch. This flight will take him to Istanbul, where he will be officially introduced.

FC Dordrecht has also begun negotiations with candidates to replace Kuijt. According to information, one of the candidates is Rick Adjei, assistant coach of Go Ahead Eagles, who previously worked here and could return as head coach. Adjei is currently under contract until mid-2028, so a transfer won't be easy. However, FC Dordrecht wants to quickly complete this deal and can do it next week. At Adelaarshorst, there are also reports that Adjei could play an important role in the coaching staff under coach Joseph Oosting.
