Everton reached a £30 million deal with Chelsea to recruit Tyrique George after a successful loan season
Everton has reached a £ 30 million agreement with Chelsea to recruit winger Tyrique George after a successful loan season, currently only waiting for a personal agreement and medical examination.
Everton has reached an agreement with Chelsea to recruit winger Tyrique George for up to £30 million, with the condition that this transfer depends on a personal agreement and a medical examination. The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan for Everton, where he impressed enough to convince manager David Moyes that he should become an integral part of the club's plans.
Everton have renegotiated the transfer structure after initially having the right to buy the England U21 international. The Merseyside club will pay an initial £24m, with the remaining £6m contingent on performance-based bonuses linked to appearances and European qualification. Chelsea have also secured a 15% sell-back clause in the deal.
George made 11 appearances during his loan spell after joining in January. Despite only having one start, his energy and willingness to work tirelessly left a strong impression on Moyes and the coaching staff. The Everton manager praised the winger's attitude after the season ended, describing George as "an excellent boy" with "a great working attitude" after the youngster adapted well to professional football.
This transfer marks an important step in George's career after he developed through Chelsea's training facility. He has long been considered one of the club's most promising attacking talents but has struggled to find playing time at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have been ready to sell the winger for a long time. RB Leipzig sought to sign him last summer, while Fulham were close to completing a £22m deal on transfer deadline day September 2025 before negotiations fell through.
Everton made a decisive move to secure his signature after seeing enough from his loan spell. George will become Everton's second signing in this summer transfer window. The club have completed the transfer of midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough for an initial fee of £16m. German midfielder Merlin Rohl also officially joined after a successful loan period from SC Freiburg. Meanwhile, two experienced players, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Seamus Coleman, have left the club after their contracts expired.
Everton's early transfer program reflects the club's desire to refresh the squad after a solid season under Moyes. George is expected to bring greater competition for the wide attacking positions and arrives with plenty of potential for further development. Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to trim their squad while securing a financial interest in one of their academy graduates through an agreed resale clause. If the remaining procedures are completed as expected, George will begin the pre-season as an official Everton player ahead of the new season.
