Federico Valverde faces a decisive season at Real Madrid under Mourinho

After two seasons without a major title, Real Madrid is working hard to improve the situation and return to the winning path in the 2026-27 season. To do this, they decided to invite Jose Mourinho as coach, who had spent time leading the club and was famous for his ability to make difficult decisions when necessary.

In this context, Diario AS highlight that one player who will face a decisive season is midfielder Federico Valverde, who endured a difficult season in 2025-26. His performances on the field last season were quite unstable, while he also often became the focus of the media for negative reasons.


Although Valverde had one of his best performances for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester City, he failed to meet the expectations of his coach and fans at key moments. Furthermore, a number of off-field controversies have caused him to lose points in the eyes of fans, including being allegedly involved in the departure of Xabi Alonso, especially after public comments expressing dissatisfaction with playing as a defender.

However, media attention was also focused on another event, which was the altercation between him and Aurelien Tchouameni. Next season, Valverde will have to compete more fiercely to get playing time in the midfield. Bernardo Silva, who has already been signed, will take up a place in the squad, while Mourinho is also targeting West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandez, who has a similar playing style to Valverde.

Federico Valverde is therefore facing a decisive season at Real Madrid, although the club has no intention of changing the scene for him, this does not apply to Eduardo Camavinga or Aurelien Tchouameni.
