George Weah: Kylian Mbappé Is Better Than Lamine Yamal
George Weah praised Kylian Mbappé's superior talent compared to Lamine Yamal, emphasizing the gap between the two players when Mbappé shines at the 2026 World Cup.

Former football player George Weah has rejected comparisons between Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona's young talent Lamine Yamal, asserting that Mbappé is "far superior". Weah, who won the Ballon d'Or in 1995, was present at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to witness Mbappé score two goals in a 3-0 victory over Sweden at the 2026 World Cup. Speaking on Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, the AC Milan and PSG legend expressed his admiration for the talent of the French team captain. "He's a phenomenon," Weah said. "He's a really good player and an excellent scorer."

While the football world is fascinated by Yamal's rise to prominence, Weah was quick to dismiss any suggestion that the youngster is currently on the same level as Mbappé. Although Yamal confidently declared that France is "no better" than Spain, the Liberian legend believes that there is still a big gap between these two stars. "Yamal is just a young boy, as you know. You should not compare him with Mbappé," Weah said when asked about the two talents of this generation. "Mbappé is a phenomenon, while Lamine is still developing and maturing. All I hope is that Lamine continues on his path. But you cannot compare him with Mbappé. Everyone knows that Mbappé is superior."
Mbappé's relentless pursuit of greatness is reflected in his position in the tournament's scoring charts. With six goals in this World Cup, the France captain is in a close race for the Golden Boot with Argentina legend Lionel Messi. His form against Sweden was almost a hat-trick, with one shot hitting the post and another ruled out for offside in a truly dominant performance.
