Mexican midfielder Gilberto Mora had an impressive performance in his World Cup debut when he helped his team win 2-0 against Czechia. Mora made a smart pass to Jorge Sanchez, who collided with the Czech goalkeeper before Julian Quinones fired the ball into the net to make it 2-0. This is the start that Mexico coach Javier Aguirre is looking for in attack, especially when the team has won the first two matches and is certain to be in the round of 32.
The 17-year-old Mora brought clarity to Mexico's attack in the final match of the group stage — a 3-0 win, with the ability to coordinate with the strikers in a way that Brian Gutierrez was unable to do in the previous two matches. "Morita" became the youngest Mexican player to start a match at the World Cup, surpassing the record of Manuel "Chaquetas" Rosas, who was 18 years and 88 days old at the 1930 tournament.

Mora impressed with his form despite only having limited playing time: he only came on as a substitute against South Africa and did not play against South Korea.
