Godfrey has no regrets about his time at Atalanta
Ben Godfrey, Rangers' new signing, reflects on his time at Atalanta, emphasizing the lessons he learned despite not playing much. He also expressed his desire to take on a leadership role at the Rangers and actively contribute to the team's success.

Rangers new signing Ben Godfrey insists he "learned a lot" from his move to Atalanta, despite his limited playing time there. The 28-year-old has only made five appearances from the bench for the Serie A side, totaling just 93 minutes of playing time, after moving from Everton for £10m in the summer of 2024.
Since then, he has had loan spells at Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Brondby in Denmark. "I learned a lot, especially tactically and technically," he said of his half-season at the Bergamo club. "Even though I didn't have much playing time, there are still a lot of things I can take away from that time."
Rangers have the option to buy Godfrey at the end of the season and he is keen to take on a leadership role in manager Derek McInnes's squad. "I am very excited about the challenges ahead and look forward to working under the coach's guidance," he said. "The ethos of the club suits me very well - looking at the history and size of the club, it's the ideal place for me to be. If you don't have pressure then you're not at the level you want to be. That's inevitable at a big club like this, so it's important to use it in a positive way.
"I don't regret anything in my career. I learn from each passing week and can use all of those experiences to achieve my best success here. At 28, I've been through a lot - I can raise the bar every day, that's my personality. I am someone who is always willing to help young players and teach them what it takes to get through at this level. I like to lead, and I can bring that personality on the field."
Godfrey, who has been called up twice for England in 2021, is Rangers' third signing this summer after Scotland internationals Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie, with goalkeeper Ivor Pandur and midfielder Dan Neil following on. "The coach is very focused on character, making sure the right people are in the team," he added. “We all want to push the club forward.”
