During the first half hour of the match, Haiti led Morocco. In the 10th minute, Joseph's shot became the opening goal when Bounou, Morocco's goalkeeper, accidentally burned his own net. This 25-year-old player, who previously only came on the field in the final minutes of the previous two matches, contributed greatly to this goal. However, the main credit belongs to Duverne (28 years old, playing for Gent): the Haitian defender received the ball from the wing and made a low pass for Joseph to score. Joseph's shot was considered lucky as the ball hit Bounou's back, who rushed out but was unable to block it.

After this goal, Hakimi equalized 1-1 in the 40th minute. The unthinkable happened when Haiti once again took a 2-1 lead, this time with a goal that had nothing to do with luck: Duverne (after getting the assist for the first goal) won the ball back and passed it to Isidor (Sunderland striker), who shot from outside the box perfectly into the top corner. With this goal, Isidor became the second player in history to score for Haiti at the World Cup; the first player was Emmanuel Sanon, who scored twice in 1974 against Italy and Argentina.

During first-half stoppage time, Morocco equalized 2-2 thanks to Saibari's goal from an assist from Hakimi: he was the first African player to score in all three group stage matches. Morocco attacked throughout the second half, nearly putting the home team ahead several times until Rahimi scored 3-2 in the 78th minute: his shot from a corner kick flew into the top corner. At the end of the match, Yassine (who came on the field in the second half) completed the 4-2 victory from Rahimi's pass.
