Olympique Marsiglia has just sent a first offer to Hellas Verona to recruit defender Rafik Belghali. This Algerian player stood out for the national team at the World Cup and is currently attracting interest from many other European clubs. However, the first offer from Marsiglia was rejected because Hellas Verona wanted to receive about 15 million euros for the deal.
Hellas Verona did not want to do a loan deal with a buyback clause, but instead asked for a buyout agreement. It is expected that a repurchase obligation will need to be included in the agreement to make this deal possible. In recent times, many European clubs, especially Newcastle, as well as some Italian teams such as Roma, Inter and Venezia, have expressed interest in Belghali. However, no team is ready to meet the price that Verona has offered.
The opportunity for this deal to take place may change as the transfer period nears the end. Rafik Belghali joined Hellas Verona in the summer of 2025 from KV Mechelen and has quickly adapted to the style of play in Serie A, becoming one of the team's important players. He stands out with his ability to continuously attack from the right wing, while not forgetting his defensive duties. His excellent performances have helped him receive much praise from Verona fans, confirming his role in the team this season.
Despite his impressive personal performance, last season faced many difficulties in terms of the team's performance. Hellas Verona's rejection of the first offer from Marsiglia shows that they are determined to retain one of their valuable assets in the context of an exciting transfer market.
What happens next
With the transfer window approaching, there may be more offers from other clubs, including Newcastle, Roma, Inter and Venezia. Hellas Verona may have to reconsider their request if no team meets their asking price. This deal is likely to happen if the right deal is put in place, especially if there is a buyback obligation in the contract.
