Paraguay coach revealed: 'I had to sell clothes to save my daughter's life'
After Paraguay was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup against France, coach Gustavo Alfaro held an emotional press conference to share the difficulties his players had to go through. He specifically mentioned the difficult circumstances that some players have faced in life, such as player Orlando Gill having to sell clothes to save his daughter's life.Coach Alfaro affirmed: "We had to face players who are competing for the Golden Ball title, who have the potential to become the top scorers in World Cup history. My players have painful stories, which many people have never known. I reminded them that everything is possible. For example, Matías Galarza, a player who is not good enough to start at River Plate, but I want to emphasize that he deserves to be in the team starting form of any football team in the world."

Alfaro also did not hesitate to share about Gill: "Do you know when was the last time he received a salary? He had to sell clothes to save his daughter's life. Ask, which team wouldn't want a goalkeeper like that? This is true for all my players!"
This coach hopes that Paraguay's efforts at the World Cup will benefit home football. He emphasized that any money earned from this tournament needs to be reinvested in infrastructure, youth training, and building more competitive teams, never accepting less. "I want to create a revolution in Paraguayan football, so I leave this World Cup with pain in my heart."
Goalkeeper Gill had hoped that his team could go further in the tournament. "We can go home proud. We gave everything. I think we could have gone further if it weren't for the penalty. We controlled the game, they had almost no chance. The penalty was correct."
