Khiara Keating: Man City goalkeeper refused new contract offer

England goalkeeper Khiara Keating has turned down a new contract at Manchester City and is now uncertain about his future. Her current contract expires next year and there has been interest from a number of other teams in the Women's Super League. At 21 years old, Keating is a graduate of the Manchester City academy and has been a fan since childhood, but she may leave the team this summer in search of regular playing opportunities.

Last season, she had to compete with Japan's Ayaka Yamashita for City's number one spot and only appeared in four WSL matches. Still, Keating was part of a successful squad that won their first WSL title in a decade and claimed the Women's FA Cup with victory over Brighton.

She was also called up to the England squad for June's crucial Women's World Cup qualifying matches against Spain and Ukraine, but missed out due to concussion. Keating was a member of the winning Euro 2025 squad and made his England debut at the Etihad Stadium in October in a friendly loss to Brazil. However, she lost her place in coach Sarina Wiegman's squad in early 2026 and will want to regain her footing before the next Women's World Cup takes place.

Among the WSL clubs interested in Keating, Liverpool is a notable name, who are looking for a goalkeeper after Jennifer Falk ended her loan in May and hopes of signing a long-term deal failed. Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor worked with Keating during his time at City, giving her the chance to make WSL appearances and guiding her through a breakout season in 2023-24. He remains a fan, but the goalkeeper has many options on the table.
