- Lazio sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, called for a peace walk with the fans but received a negative response from the organizing fan group, which shows the need for a consensus between the club and the fans.
- Lazio, il botta e risposta Fabiani-tifo organizzato e lo strano concetto di tregua.
In the context that Lazio is leading the Serie A rankings with 19 points after 7 rounds, the debate between Sports Director Angelo Fabiani and the organization's fans has become the focus of attention. Fabiani has expressed his desire to create a peace with the fans, stressing that this could benefit both the team and the coach. He said: "I want to offer a hand not of challenge, but of love and reason. Why can't there be peace, so that each side can keep their point of view and see life the way they want?".
However, this proposal did not receive consensus from fans. They believe that this request is too unilateral and does not really solve the core problem. Proposals for peace are often made by the weak, and in this case, there are clearly losers. Fans have suspended their actions, giving up the right to go to the stadium to watch their favorite team play, while the club also suffered significant economic losses from their absence.
In order for a peace to be achieved, both sides need to make concessions. Fans can return to the stadium and continue to protest as they did before, while the club also needs to make specific promises and commitments. A sincere apology or recognition that the club got it wrong over the last four transfers could be a good start. In particular, a firm commitment that Lazio will carry out transfer activities in the January transfer window will be necessary to create trust from fans.
The question is if fans are asked to return to the field to support the team, then why don't they have the right to ask the club to invest in the squad to help the team become stronger? These questions received no answers and so the organizing fan group rejected Fabiani's peace offer. They will probably reconsider in a month, but only if there is more than a simple offer.
What happens next
To reach consensus, both Lazio and the fans need to make concessions. The club may need to make specific promises and show respect for fans' requests, while fans also need to consider returning to the field to support the team in the next matches.
