London City Lionesses have confirmed a new contract with Freya Godfrey, as rumors of Alexia Putellas joining the team grow. The Lionesses enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Women's Super League, finishing in sixth place. They have bolstered their squad with a number of standout additions, including former England goalkeeper Mary Earps. However, the appearance of Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, will attract global attention. She is currently a free agent after ending a successful 14-year career at Barcelona. Multiple reports suggest Putellas has reached an agreement to join Lionesses, despite interest from across Europe and North America. Although London City are yet to confirm information about Putellas, they have announced a new three-year contract with striker Godfrey. She was the Lionesses' top scorer in the WSL last season with six goals and also had a team-high four assists. "I've enjoyed my time here so far. It's fantastic to win the Championship title in 2025 and represent the club in our first WSL season, as we've had a really strong season," said the 21-year-old, who has been part of recent England squads. "We have world-class players here who have won World Cup titles, Champions League titles and know what it takes to win. I am training and playing with players that I have admired since I was a child like Nikita Parris, who I followed for many years in the national team, Danielle van de Donk when I was at Arsenal, and Delphine Cascarino who is one of the best wingers in the world. To have players like that training with every day is amazing." something indescribable."
