Maarten Martens may go to Heart of Midlothian
Maarten Martens, the former AZ coach, is in the process of looking for a new opportunity at Heart of Midlothian in Scotland.
Maarten Martens is waiting for a new challenge in Scotland. According to many sources, the former AZ coach participated in an interview at Heart of Midlothian. This team was very close to winning the championship last season but in the end had to cede position to Celtic. On 16 May, they suffered defeat at Celtic Park. Although Heart had the lead at one point, Celtic fought back and won 3-1 in the deciding match. Manager Derek McInnes has moved to Rangers FC, so Heart are now looking for a new manager. The name René Hake was also mentioned in Edinburgh. Martens, 41, has been without a club since being sacked at AZ on January 18. At Alkmaar, he is taking on his first job as head coach. Before that, he began his coaching career as a youth coach at Club Brugge and was also youth coach and first team assistant at AZ. As a player, he played for clubs such as Anderlecht, RKC Waalwijk, AZ, PAOK Saloniki and Cercle Brugge.
