Manchester City have had their first transfer bid for midfielder Elliot Anderson rejected by Nottingham Forest. According to information from BBC Sport, the 23-year-old English player is tending to move to Etihad Stadium instead of Manchester United. There are growing expectations that Anderson will leave the City Ground this summer and City have officially expressed an interest with the first offer being rejected, as reported by The Athletic.
Anderson has had an excellent season with Forest and has been selected in Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad. The transfer fee could become a record for an English player and surpass the £105m Arsenal paid West Ham for Declan Rice in 2023.
Manchester City have long admired Anderson, a product of Newcastle's academy, and although the player is currently preparing for tournaments in the US, Canada and Mexico, negotiations between the two clubs could continue. The departure of captain Bernardo Silva leaves City needing to strengthen their midfield and Anderson is at the top of the list of potential targets.
Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali is also a player said to be highly rated by City, with it being reported that the Italy international has been tracked as a long-term target. Nico Gonzalez, who was not on the Spanish World Cup squad list and was not favored by Pep Guardiola last season, can leave if he receives a reasonable offer.
Sources say City are also looking for a right-back to complement Matheus Nunes, 28, who has excelled in the position after being converted from midfield. City are targeting the profile of a young defender and someone with the potential to develop in that position in the future.
