Mitchell Weiser extends contract with Werder Bremen
Mitchell Weiser has extended his contract with Werder Bremen after missing all of last season due to a serious injury. The club hopes he will return to his best form next season.
SV Werder Bremen has officially announced the contract extension with player Mitchell Weiser. The 32-year-old player had to miss all of last season due to a cruciate ligament injury, and currently, he is actively trying to regain his form. During the past 34 matches, Weiser could not play once for Werder Bremen because of a serious injury during pre-season.
Now, he is aiming to return strongly to the team, especially in the context that Werder Bremen was almost relegated. The club and Weiser have agreed on a contract extension, as previously reported. This will be his sixth year at Werder Bremen, where he was loaned from Bayer Leverkusen and has since been signed permanently.
"We are delighted to continue our partnership with Mitchell. We remain fully confident in his quality," said Peter Niemeyer, the club's Director of Professional Football. The new contract will be based on the player's performance.
Werder Bremen is hoping that Weiser will bring creativity to the team in the new season after recovering from a knee injury. In the 2022/23 season, he scored 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists), while the 2023/24 season had 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) and the 2024/25 season with 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists). At his best, he was an important player for Bremen. Under coach Horst Steffen, Weiser was scheduled to play as a right winger, but now, he will take on the right back position.
