Newport County has appointed Chris Todd as interim coach after Christian Fuchs resigned. Todd will lead the team during this important transition.

Newport County has appointed Chris Todd as interim coach after Christian Fuchs left his position as head coach. Fuchs, an Austrian, resigned on June 27 after just seven months in charge of the League Two side. Newport have confirmed that Todd will take up the new role immediately as the club look for a permanent appointment. In a club statement, they said: "Chris takes on this role at a crucial time for the club, and he has the full support of the board, staff and players. His knowledge of the team, understanding of the club's values and commitment to the fans make him well-suited to lead the team during this interim period." Todd, 44, is a former County player and joined Fuchs' staff as assistant first-team coach in March after serving as director of football at Eastleigh, manager of Gloucester City, assistant manager at Yeovil Town and first-team coach at Torquay United. Newport have also confirmed that Mark Smith will continue as assistant manager. Newport's statement went on to say: "Everyone at the club is united in their support of Chris, Mark and the team, and we look forward to supporting the team in the pre-season. Newport County ask the fans and media to be patient during this period. Chris has our full confidence in leading the team, and going forward we will undertake a careful process to identify a permanent appointment in line with the club's philosophy and ambitions." Newport players are expected to return to pre-season training on Monday, July 29, before kicking off the 2026-27 season with a Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon on the weekend of August 8, followed by their League Two opener against Rochdale the following week. County were bottom of League Two when they sacked Dave Hughes last November. Fuchs - who won the 2015-16 Premier League title with Leicester City - guided the club to relegation on the final day of the season but left the club just under two months after the end of the 2025-26 season.
