The Psychological Thickness of Italian Football: Serie A Big Men Cannot Be Responsible When Palestra Moves to Chelsea

In a small world like Italian football, Marco Palestra's transfer to Chelsea cannot be considered a failure for our football. The national team will only benefit when players like Riccardo Calafiori, Sandro Tonali, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Destiny Udogie play in the Premier League. The confusion between the Italian team and Serie A has led to many misunderstandings over the years.

Atalanta remains a shining example where transfer proceeds are reinvested intelligently. They earned over a hundred million euros this past summer by "paying to see talent". The Percassi and Giuntoli families have a clear plan for Atalanta, but the bigger problem is that many big clubs are still unable to build a sustainable plan.

Recruiting experienced players like Luka Modric cannot completely solve the problem without a solid support system. For example, Milan was unable to develop young players last season despite the presence of Modric.

There was practically no development in the Milan squad last season. Even though there are big stars in the squad, they still lack a long-term plan to develop young talent. This also reflects the lack of determination of mid-range clubs to invest in young Italian players.

Even though there are many young talents, we let them waste on the bench or have no opportunity to develop. Clubs need to minimize the purchase of foreign players and invest more in domestic talent. Only then can Serie A and the national team return to glory.
