Pedro Porro is about to extend his contract with Tottenham until 2030
Pedro Porro will almost certainly sign a new contract with Tottenham until 2030, marking the end of Manchester City's interest in the player.
Right winger Pedro Porro is in the process of extending his long-term contract with Tottenham, which has forced Manchester City to give up hope of recruiting him. City have been interested in re-signing Porro this summer as they seek competition and support for Matheus Nunes at right-back. Porro, 26 years old, played for City from 2019 to 2022 but has not made any appearances for the first team. According to information, City's Football Director, Hugo Viana, loves this player very much. However, Tottenham has determined that Porro is non-transferable under the guidance of coach Roberto De Zerbi. It is known that the North London club has set a starting price of 50 million pounds to open negotiations. The new contract would end any realistic hope City had of re-signing the player. According to a report from The Athletic's Seb Stafford-Bloor, Porro will almost certainly sign a new contract with Tottenham, running until 2030, virtually ending Manchester City's interest. This is an important development for City, who have considered their Premier League experience, attacking quality and familiarity with the demands of the position as an ideal fit for the right-back position under new manager Enzo Maresca. Spurs have long wanted to keep hold of Porro, with his previous contract set to expire in 2028 and the player set to receive a significant pay rise due to his importance in De Zerbi's system. A contract until 2030 would completely take Porro off the market, forcing Viana to focus on other right-back targets as he looks to consolidate his position ahead of the new season. City have been monitoring a number of options at right-back, with Atalanta's Marco Palestra and Feyenoord's Givairo Read among the potential youngsters being considered this summer. In particular, the pursuit of Palestra has accelerated, with reports that City are ready to make an offer for the Italy international while Atalanta are awaiting a fee of around €50 million amid competition from Inter Milan. Porro's impending extension will remove the most experienced option from City's shortlist, leaving Viana to focus on the long-term profile which has always been seen as the more realistic and strategic route to addressing the position. With Nunes impressing and exceeding expectations as a replacement at right-back last season, City are under no pressure to overpay - and the collapse of Porro's selection is unlikely to disrupt careful plans to strengthen the position.
