Real Madrid has officially denied speculation that they have contacted Chelsea about the transfer of Enzo Fernandez. The club had also previously tried to quash speculation that they were looking to recruit Michael Olise. Madrid issued an almost similar statement last month regarding Bayern Munich star Olise, who had an impressive performance for France at the World Cup.

It's been a busy summer in the Spanish capital, with Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva all joining the club, ahead of the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach. They have also had a bid rejected for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, with president Florentino Perez promising to spend big once he is re-elected.

Fernandez was considered a potential option after he hinted at a move to Madrid last season, in comments that led to him being dropped from the squad by former Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior. No Premier League player has played more than Fernandez with 61 matches in all competitions in the 2025-26 season, while his 26 goal contributions (16 goals, 10 assists) are second only to Chelsea's Joao Pedro (29).

However, Real Madrid confirmed that the player is not on their radar and no contact has been made with Fernandez's side. "In view of the information and statements that have appeared in recent days about a supposed interest of Real Madrid C.F. in the player Enzo Fernandez, the club would like to declare that it has not carried out any activity, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the said player and has no intention of carrying out such a transaction," Madrid said in a statement.

"Real Madrid would like to express their utmost respect to Enzo Fernandez, a great player whose career and quality are known, as well as to Chelsea FC, a club with which they have a good relationship.

"It is because of the respect that an entity such as Chelsea FC deserves and because of the principles of institutional loyalty that have always governed Real Madrid's operations, the club feels it necessary to unequivocally reject speculation that is unfounded and does not reflect reality.

"Real Madrid regrets that, despite clarity on the facts and the absence of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be spread without reflecting reality and only contributing to creating confusion among fans and causing unnecessary harm to the entities and individuals involved."

Madrid's statement came just a day after Fernandez's agent, Javier Pastore, announced that the midfielder was "considering possibilities" to leave Chelsea. Since joining Stamford Bridge from Benfica in January 2023, in a deal that is considered a Premier League record, Fernandez has made 169 appearances in all competitions. Reports suggest that if Fernandez wants to force a transfer, Chelsea will demand a fee of £120 million for a player who is under contract for another six years.
