Russell Martin was appointed coach of Leicester City
Russell Martin has been appointed as the new coach of Leicester City with a three-year contract. This is his first role after being sacked by Rangers.
Leicester City has just officially announced the appointment of Russell Martin as the team's new head coach. He signed a three-year contract with this team. At the same time, Leicester also announced that Gary Rowett will leave the club this summer. Rowett was appointed as interim coach to help Leicester maintain their place in the Championship, but a six-point deduction due to spending violations led to the team being relegated to League One.
This is Martin's first role since being sacked by Rangers in October, after just 123 days in charge at Ibrox Stadium. Martin expressed his excitement at joining Leicester: "I'm delighted to be here and eager to start working with the players and coaching staff," he told the club's website. "This is a club with a great history, strong support and many expectations, and I look forward to getting to know the club, the city and the fans.
"My immediate goals are to build strong relationships, set clear standards and produce performances that Leicester City fans can connect with and be proud of."
Leicester City is pleased to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as the team's new head coach. He is Leicester's seventh manager since April 2023, when coach Brendan Rodgers, who led the team to the FA Cup title, left the club. Martin also has some experience in League One, having led MK Dons in this tournament from November 2019 to August 2021. At the age of 40, he won 24/65 matches in League One (Draw 17, Lose 24), leading MK Dons to 13th place in the 2020-21 season.
