Rui Pinto, founder of Football Leaks, has criticized Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, for violations related to Manchester City. Pinto asserted that Infantino was well aware of the issues and therefore he should resign. Amid mounting pressure ahead of the 2027 FIFA elections, Infantino is facing criticism over his role in the investigations against Manchester City and PSG.
According to Rui Pinto, Infantino, who served as UEFA Secretary General, abused his power to protect Manchester City and PSG. "As early as 2014, there were people who knew about the irregularities surrounding Manchester City. Gianni Infantino, then UEFA General Secretary, acted wrongly, revealing secret documents and turning a blind eye to investigators," Pinto wrote on social network X.
Pinto also emphasized that Infantino tried his best to get Manchester City and PSG to only receive a monetary penalty, to avoid a deeper investigation that could lead to these two teams being eliminated from the Champions League. This shows a major manipulation in the way UEFA handles financial violations, in Pinto's opinion.
This incident not only raises doubts about the transparency of the world's leading football organizations but also raises big questions about the responsibility of leaders in maintaining fairness in sports. With the information Pinto provided, many fans and football analysts began demanding an independent investigation to clarify all issues related to Infantino and his past decisions.
Rui Pinto was once an important figure in publishing information about Football Leaks, helping to expose many financial scandals in football. With this return, he continues to assert his role in protecting fairness and transparency in international football. Whether Infantino can stand up to these pressures or not is still an unanswered question.
What happens next
With increasing pressure from analysts and fans, there is likely to be an independent investigation into Infantino's role in incidents involving Manchester City and PSG.
