Scott Phelan was appointed as the official coach of Everton Women

Scott Phelan has been appointed as the permanent coach of the Everton women's team after a successful interim period last season. The 38-year-old coach took over on an interim basis in February when Brian Sorensen was sacked and guided the team to an eighth-place finish in the Women's Superliga. When Phelan took over, the team were just four points above the relegation zone, but he has helped Everton to three consecutive wins in an impressive start to his interim term.

Phelan, who joined Everton as a player at the age of eight and came through the club's academy without making a single first-team appearance, returned as manager in 2012. Former Everton striker Phil Jevons, who returned to the club in February as caretaker, will assist Phelan going forward.

"Having the opportunity to lead our women's team as coach is something I do not take lightly. I look forward to what lies ahead," Phelan shared. "We want to move forward and try to get back to where we believe Everton Football Club should be, which is near the top of the table."
