Senator Paraguay threatens Mbappé with a lawsuit after his response

Paraguayan Senator **Celeste Amarilla** publicly criticized French team striker **Kylian Mbappé** in a post on social networks. She expressed her dissatisfaction with Mbappé's allegedly arrogant and disrespectful statements, especially those that she believed were insulting to the Paraguayan people.

In a quote, Ms. Amarilla emphasized: "Your arrogance and contempt have annoyed me since before the match, when you said: 'If we have to roll, we will do it'. We are not stupid. We understand that you are referring to the Paraguayan team and the Paraguayan people in general. Then you say that they will 'remove the makeup'. We also understand that you consider yourself elegant and have makeup, and we I'm a poor, rude person who doesn't know what makeup is. All Paraguayans understood that, and so did I. We swallowed it.

During the match, your arrogance becomes even more obvious. You show contempt for each player, as if they disgust you. And when you don't hesitate to say: 'La concha de tu madre' (a common swear word in Latin America), it becomes an extremely serious insult, and you know it.

Now, I ask you to take back your words and apologize to me. I also have no intention of enduring your violence. You don't know who I am, and you don't have the right to call me "common woman" or "poor" when you don't even know me? It was pure violence, and very serious! This is political violence against a woman who came to power thanks to the support of her people. Furthermore, you show contempt for me just because I am a woman. You don't attack my skin color, my preferences — you attack my status as a woman and my political position. Take back your words, respect your French nationality and apologise. If not, I can start a lawsuit about gender violence," Ms. Amarilla wrote on her social network page.

Previously, Ms. Amarilla criticized Mbappé for not shaking hands with Paraguay team goalkeeper Orlando Bily after the match in the 1/8 round of the 2026 World Cup. Afterwards, the French striker responded to these criticisms.
