Thomas Tuchel is concerned about the England team's right-back situation after Jarell Quansah's injury
Thomas Tuchel expressed concern about the England team's right-back situation after Jarell Quansah's injury in the World Cup match against Panama.

Thomas Tuchel has expressed concern about England's right-back situation ahead of the World Cup knockout match, after Jarell Quansah became the latest player to suffer an injury. Quansah started in place of Reece James, who was injured, in the 2-0 victory over Panama in New Jersey, helping England win top spot in Group L. However, this player had to leave the field in the second half and immediately went to the tunnel to receive treatment. The injury puts Tuchel in a difficult position ahead of their first qualifying match in Atlanta next Wednesday (17:00 BST). James is a major doubt for the match due to a hamstring injury, and with right-back Tino Livramento forced out of the squad with a calf problem, Tuchel is left with only two options at right-back in Djed Spence and Ezri Konsa, who has played at centre-back in all three of England's matches. When Livramento asked to withdraw from the World Cup squad, Tuchel chose to call up midfielder Trevoh Chalobah instead of a replacement right-back like Trent Alexander-Arnold. Tuchel said it was difficult to assess the severity of Quansah's injury immediately after the match, but with the qualifying match just four days away, the player's availability remains uncertain. "A typical ankle twist and he's in pain," Tuchel said of Quansah's injury. "He said he had had this injury before and it was only a matter of a few days. He was keeping his leg elevated and iced. "Naturally I'm very worried about the right-back situation - we have another injury in this position. It's going to be a tight race for Reece James and for Jarell Quansah, but it's our job to find a solution and we will do that."
