Josh Rourke scored a last-minute winner to help Wakefield win a dramatic match against Huddersfield Giants, who are bottom of the Super League table. When Olly Russell scored a drop-goal for the visitors to equalize with his old club with a minute remaining, the match looked like it would go into extra time. However, the Giants' winger made an inaccurate pass and Rourke quickly cut the ball in, giving the home team victory and moving them up to fourth place in the standings. Trinity got off to a strong start with a 10-0 advantage thanks to goals from Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken, but the away team fought back strongly with goals from Jacob Gagai and Cole Geyer. Jack Sinfield gave Trinity the lead before half-time, but Asher O'Donnell scored to put the Giants back in the lead early in the second half. A Max Jowitt penalty leveled the scores before Rourke scored in the corner, giving Wakefield the lead again, only for Adam Swift to score to bring the visitors back. Russell hit a drop-goal to equalize again, but then there was more drama when Rourke successfully cut in and scored to give Wakefield victory. With this defeat, Huddersfield had their ninth consecutive loss and are currently four points away from safety. Wakefield are currently on equal points with Wigan and St Helens, and four points ahead of seventh-placed Leigh Leopards. The game couldn't have started worse for the Giants as Johnstone scored in the corner and McMeeken also scored after Rourke returned the ball from Jake Trueman's kick. However, Huddersfield did not give up, two solo goals from Gagai and Geyer helped them turn the game around for the first time. Sinfield's first Super League goal after joining from Leeds gave Wakefield a 16-12 lead before the break, but Russell kicked a 40/20 in the first move of the second half and O'Donnell scored. Huddersfield, looking for their first win since April 4, couldn't hold on to that slim advantage as Jowitt converted a free to equalize, and Rourke brilliantly raced past three opposition players to score in the corner. The away team continued to counterattack when Swift cut in from the left and scored to bring the score to 22-22. Sinfield's drop-goal gave Wakefield the lead again, but Russell took a long kick to equalize again. But the former Trinity player suffered disappointment when his pass was cut in by Rourke, allowing him to escape the clutches and win the game for his side. Huddersfield will open the Magic Weekend against York Knights at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium next Saturday, while Daryl Powell will face former club Castleford in their first match on Sunday.
