Yoane Wissa had a memorable performance in the 2-2 draw between Newcastle and Liverpool last weekend. This is an impressive return for the player after a difficult season at St James' Park. The former Brentford man has shown a marked improvement in form, which was highlighted by former Newcastle defender John Anderson on BBC Radio Newcastle's radio show.
In this match, Wissa played a key role in Newcastle's play, not only actively participating in attacking situations but also directly assisting Joe Willock's goal, who put the home team ahead 2-1. Anderson was lavish in his praise of Wissa, saying the player was "everywhere" on the field and showed the qualities that fans have come to expect from him.
Anderson said: "Wissa is a player who received a lot of criticism last season. He was thrown into difficult situations and had an injury on international duty, which prevented him from regaining his form. But now he has shown he is an important player for Newcastle."
Wissa showed off his ball control and ability to create chances, leaving Liverpool's defense reeling. Anderson went on to say about the situation that led to Willock's goal: "What Wissa did in the middle of the field was amazing. He made the three players in red shirts unable to keep up. Wissa has been everything you want to see. We know what type of player he is because we saw it at Brentford. Hopefully this is just the start of better things. If he keeps this form, it will be scary!"
Wissa's performance is not only a positive sign for Newcastle but also shows that he is ready to prove himself in a competitive league like the Premier League. With confidence returning, Newcastle fans have reason to hope for a more successful season for both the team and Wissa personally.
What happens next
With current form, Wissa is expected to continue to shine in the upcoming matches, helping Newcastle improve its position on the rankings.
