Despite facing criticism from the beginning, Carlo Ancelotti maintained his faith and during the press conference, he emphasized that "The World Cup cannot be won in the first match". In fact, if we analyze the last four World Cups, from 2010 to 2022, up to half of the winning teams could not have a successful start. The most recent example is Argentina, who won in Qatar four years ago, but started the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia. It is impossible not to mention Spain in 2010, who despite performing excellently in most of the tournament, lost 0-1 to Switzerland in their opening match. Therefore, recent statistics show that a bad start is not always a sign of failure, but the opposite. Below are the results of the first matches of the winning teams: World Cup 2010: Spain - Switzerland 0-1, World Cup 2014: Germany - Portugal 4-0, World Cup 2018: France - Australia 2-1, World Cup 2022: Saudi Arabia - Argentina 2-1.
