This year, Weir, 31 years old, had an impressive season after moving from Real Madrid to Lyon. This is the second year in a row that Weir has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or, having ranked 30th last year. This shows her development in her football career and recognition from professionals.
She competes not only with Chelsea's Erin Cuthbert but also with other faces such as Brann's Lauren Davidson and Kathleen McGovern, who recently moved from Hibernian to Newcastle United. This year's Scottish National Player Award nomination list also includes Nicole Kozlova from Glasgow City, who was just named PFA Scotland Player of the Season last May. Kozlova will face three other strikers including Celtic's Saoirse Noonan, Rangers' Katie Wilkinson, and Georgia Timms, who recently moved from Heart of Midlothian to Ipswich Town.
Coach Eva Olid, who led Hearts to win the Scottish Women's Premier League title last season, has moved to work at the Women's Super League in England. Olid was named PFA Scotland Manager of the Season and is currently in the running for SWPL Manager of the Year. She will have to compete with Leanne Crichton, the Rangers manager, Hibernian's Joelle Murray, and Jack Beesley, who has guided the Spartans back to the top flight.
The results of these awards will be announced at Hampden Park on November 28, providing an event worth waiting for for Scottish women's football fans.
