He played for Manchester United for three years and joined Wolfsburg in September 2025 - both the Premier League and Bundesliga allow players with an ICD to compete.
The ICD is a device about half the size of a cell phone, with thin wires connected to the area around the heart. There are two main types of ICDs. One type is installed under the skin, usually near the armpit, and acts as a small defibrillator. The other type is usually installed just below the collarbone and, like a pacemaker, can send regular electrical signals if it detects that the heart is beating too slowly.
