Francesco Pio Esposito will wear the number 9 shirt for Italy in their Nations League match against Türkiye on Monday night. Esposito was given this shirt number because Moise Kean had to leave the squad due to injury. This match takes place at the Dall'Ara stadium in Bologna at 19:45 BST.
This was the last time Italy competed in the Nations League during the international break that lasted from September to October. During this period, Italy had an impressive 4-1 victory over Türkiye in the previous match, marking coach Roberto Mancini's first victory in his second term. Previously, the team suffered a 0-2 defeat against Belgium and had an encouraging 1-1 draw against France last Friday.
Because these are Nations League matches, coach Mancini had to narrow the player list to 23 people. There have been a number of changes from the squad that drew with France: Moise Kean is unable to participate due to injury, while Samuele Ricci and Mohamed Ali Zoma are also left out of the squad to play against Türkiye. Instead, Samuele Inacio, Alessandro Romano and Nicolo Cambiaghi were called up to the squad.
With Kean retiring, the number 9 shirt was taken over by Inter Milan player Esposito. Previously, Esposito wore the number 7 shirt during this international break. Shirt number 7 now belongs to Cambiaghi. Romano will wear the number 4 shirt, which previously belonged to Ricci, against France.
Below is a list of team shirt numbers:
- Goalkeepers: 1. Gianluigi Donnarumma, 12. Marco Carnesecchi, 13. Guglielmo Vicario.
