Why this is important
The 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient not only helped Plymouth Argyle rise to the top of the League One rankings but also confirmed the team's impressive form. Main point
- Not talking about position on the rankings, Plymouth Argyle leads.
- Plymouth Argyle are in impressive form with a 2-0 win over Leyton Orient, helping them rise to the top of the League One rankings.
- 'No talk' of league position as Plymouth Argyle go top.
Plymouth Argyle had an impressive performance when winning 2-0 against Leyton Orient, thereby rising to the top of the League One rankings. Coach Tom Cleverley of this team said there would be no "talk" about the team being top of the table. This is the first time Argyle have led the rankings since they won the League One title with a record 101 points in 2023.
"We became very focused on what we needed to do, preparing for the next match and then performing in that match," Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon. "I think March is the time when things become less about positions and more about results. But right now, we're focused on what brings long-term success and performance, and there will be no talk about where we are in the rankings."
After missing out on the chance to go top last week, following a 1-0 defeat at home to Burton Albion, Cleverley was impressed with the way his players responded. Strikers Bim Pepple and Will Evans scored within four minutes at the start of the second half, securing a third consecutive away win for Argyle and their fifth in six matches in all competitions.
"The players all know what we didn't do last weekend. We've had a week to work on that and I think they've done excellently," Cleverley added. "I'm really proud of the players, they deserve a lot of credit. That's how you respond after a defeat at home. But we don't want to get carried away, it's only been one good performance in 46 games and we have to work for another good performance next Tuesday and then an important game next Saturday at home against Wimbledon.
What happens next
Plymouth Argyle will continue to focus on the upcoming matches, with manager Tom Cleverley emphasizing the importance of maintaining form and performance. The team will need to develop their strength to maintain their leading position and achieve their long-term goals in this League One season.
