The match between Real Madrid and Manchester City is not only an opportunity for the Spanish team to seek their first victory in the UEFA Women's Champions League but also an important step in their journey in this tournament. With an unfavorable current position, Real Madrid needs to improve their performance to have a chance of advancing to the quarterfinals, something they have not been able to do in the previous three seasons.

Real Madrid will travel to Manchester City at 21:00 local time in the second round group match of the UEFA Women's Champions League. This is an opportunity for the Spanish team to find their first victory in this tournament after they had a draw on the opening day against PSG. In the previous match, Real Madrid had a promising start when Felicia Schröder, a young Swedish player, scored the opening goal in the second minute. However, they allowed PSG to equalize with a goal from Karchaoui's penalty in the final minutes of the match, which ended 1-1.
Currently, Real Madrid is ranked tenth on the rankings, with only five matches remaining. To be able to advance to the quarter-finals, the team needs to be in the top four teams after the group stage ends. This is a challenging goal for coach Pau Quesada and his team, as they have failed in the quarterfinals three times before.
In the domestic La Liga F tournament, Real Madrid is in good form with four wins and one draw, including 13 goals and conceding only 6 goals. They are currently ranked second on the rankings, two points behind leaders Barcelona. The next match in La Liga F will be against Barcelona on October 4.
Coach Pau Quesada has made adjustments to the squad by resting key players before the confrontation with PSG but will not be able to do the same against Manchester City. Last weekend, Real Madrid had a tough match against Real Sociedad and won 5-3 thanks to Schröder's double in the final minutes. Athenea del Castillo has returned to the starting lineup fully recovered from injury, while Sandie Toletti is still unable to return from a hamstring injury.
On Manchester City's side, the team also just returned to the UEFA Women's Champions League after a season of absence. They drew 2-2 in their first match against Bayern Munich and will be Real Madrid's next opponents. In the Super League, Manchester City are in excellent form with four wins in four matches and are currently leading the standings.
Manchester City's attacking spearheads include Beth Mead, who won the European Championship with England, and Kadija Shaw, the top goalscorer in the club's history. However, they will be without Vivianne Miedema, who scored 14 goals last season but is recovering from an injury.
In the history of confrontation in the UEFA Women's Champions League, Real Madrid and Manchester City have met three times, with Real Madrid winning two and drawing one. The last encounter took place in August 2022, when Real Madrid won 1-0 with a goal from Caroline Weir.
What happens next
After the match with Manchester City, Real Madrid will continue to focus on the domestic La Liga F tournament, where they are in good form and are only two points behind top team Barcelona. The next match against Barcelona on October 4 will be a big test, which could affect their morale and preparation for the next matches in the UEFA Women's Champions League.
