Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to the England team amid doubts about his ability by coach Thomas Tuchel. Recently, Alexander-Arnold was not selected in England's squad, especially when he was not in the squad for the World Cup last summer. The recent match against the Czech Republic marked his return, and no one could have expected him to create such an outstanding moment.
Tuchel called Alexander-Arnold back to the squad for a four-match Nations League camp, and this decision brought a big surprise to many people. In the match against the Czech Republic, Alexander-Arnold became the ninth right-back that Tuchel has used in 24 matches, when he was given the opportunity to start. This shows that his absence in previous matches has caused many people to question his ability.
In this match, even though the England team was having difficulty against 10 Czech players, Alexander-Arnold proved his worth. He had a 70-yard run to add to his team's attack, and after getting the ball back, he made a perfect pass with his right foot, beating three Czech defenders for teammate Anthony Gordon to score with a header. This assist not only helped the England team score but also reaffirmed Alexander-Arnold's ability in front of coach Tuchel.
While Tuchel may still have doubts about Alexander-Arnold's defensive ability, this moment showed what he can do and why he deserves a chance to prove himself. Coach Tuchel said after the match: "Alexander-Arnold played very well. He had an excellent assist. Overall, he showed a professional attitude and had a decisive action in the match."
Anthony Gordon, who scored from Alexander-Arnold's pass, also expressed his admiration for this player's talent. Gordon said: "I've run so many times and there are only a few players who have the ability, technique and courage to make passes like that. That's why he's so great."
This match is not only an important step in Alexander-Arnold's team career but also an opportunity for him to prove his value to coach Tuchel. If he can continue this form in the next matches, maybe Tuchel will start to have more confidence in his abilities.
Alexander-Arnold shared his feelings after the match: "It is always an honor to represent your country. I have always believed that I could play for England, and now I have the chance to prove it." The match ended in victory for England, with captain Harry Kane's 87th goal getting the team off to a good start in the Nations League.
What happens next
With this impressive performance, Alexander-Arnold may continue to be trusted in the England team's next matches in the Nations League. The competition for the right-back position is still very fierce, but if he maintains his form, the possibility of him becoming the main choice for coach Tuchel is very high.
