Ade Adeyemo, 27-year-old Crawley Town player, has shared that the difficult days at the team are now completely behind him, as he looks forward to a brighter future at the League Two club. Adeyemo signed a new two-year contract with Crawley this week, just six months after he thought his Crawley career was over when he was dropped from the squad amid a relegation battle.

"I'm delighted to sign for this great club again," he told BBC Radio Sussex. "I didn't think I would be here, but it's thanks to the hard work I put in and the people behind me supporting me. I'm really happy here."

On 1 January, Crawley lost 1–2 to Barnet, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone. Adeyemo came on for the final 10 minutes, but that was the last time he was on the field for more than six weeks. He was left out of the squad for seven matches by manager Scott Lindsey after an impressive January transfer window, which saw 13 new players joining in a bid to restart the season. “January is a difficult time,” Adeyemo said. "It's not my favorite month."

However, the changes had a positive effect and Adeyemo saw the team win against rivals Barrow and Harrogate Town, which was important at the end of the season as they moved to safety from the relegation zone. When the team's form dipped again, Adeyemo was called up and participated in a few matches, before the coach lost his job on 23 March, with the team just one point above the danger zone.

The combination of new coach Colin Kazim-Richards and Adeyemo's move to right-back has given him a new opportunity. "Because of some injuries, I had to take that position," he said. "I had a good game against Gillingham and that carried me into the last seven games, where I did well. I feel very excited and happy with this position. I never thought I would be a defender, I have to admit. Before coming here, I was a winger or a number 10, so now to say I am a defender is strange, but I am accepting the challenge. There is a lot I need to learn and the summer is the time." Perfect spot for that.”

This is also the time to erase memories of the past difficult season, which was only guaranteed relegation at the last minute. Many new additions, including midfielder Jude Arthurs from League Two champions Bromley, are generating optimism. "I was quite surprised when we got Jude," Adeyemo said. "He's won the title and to see him here is a big motivation for all of us in the dressing room. I think we can do big things. Obviously, this is a new start for everyone. With the squad we have and the spirit in this club, I believe we can go very far.
