Leandro Paredes, a Boca Juniors player, is currently facing a heavy penalty when he is banned from playing for the Argentina team for 10 matches. However, it is possible that he will return to the team sooner than expected, after the Argentine Football Association (AFA) officially filed an appeal with FIFA to reduce this penalty to only 3 matches.
According to information from many major sports sources in Argentina, AFA acted urgently after Paredes was heavily fined for unacceptable behavior in the 2022 World Cup final, where Argentina lost to Spain. FIFA's ruling has made many people feel dissatisfied, saying that this penalty is too harsh compared to the level of the player's violation.
The AFA has pointed out that there have been many similar cases in the past that were not handled as harshly, and they believe that Paredes was dealt with unfairly. If the AFA's appeal is successful, Paredes will only have to miss Argentina's friendly matches during this time, including confrontations with Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin. In particular, the match against Benin will be Lionel Messi's farewell match, an event that many fans are looking forward to.
Paredes returning to the Argentina team will be good news for the coach and fans, especially when the team needs his experience and talent in the upcoming matches. In addition, AFA is also working to ensure that other players do not suffer heavy penalties in the future, to protect the rights of players and teams.
With these developments, Argentina fans are hoping for a positive outcome from the appeal, and Paredes' timely return could make a difference for the team in the upcoming matches.
What happens next
If AFA's appeal is approved by FIFA, Paredes will only have to miss three friendly matches, including the special match with Benin, where Messi will say goodbye. This means that he can return to the team in the near future, helping to strengthen Argentina in important tournaments. AFA is also making efforts to protect the rights of other players in the future.
