The match between two teams struggling in Ligue 1 took place in the Champagne region. Marseille entered the match with the spirit of needing to win after a series of four consecutive losses, while Troyes was no better with three matches without a win. The match was not exciting from the start, as both teams failed to create any finishing opportunities in the first half. Marseille dominated possession but were unable to make a breakthrough, with Igor Paixao delivering the ball from the left but his passes lacked precision.
On the other side, Jérémy Le Douaron is the one who carries the attack for Troyes. This player has good aerial ability but also has difficulty finding goals, as his headers are not accurate. The second half started with a different development, when Emerson Palmieri had an accurate pass to Amine Harit in an empty position at the back post. Harit did not miss this opportunity, kicking the ball past goalkeeper Patrick Beach to open the score for Marseille.
Despite the lead, the match still took place in a slow mood. Marseille coach Bruno Génésio made a personnel change midway through the second half, bringing Neal Maupay and Keyliane Abdallah onto the field to replace Amine Gouiri and Harit, in preparation for the upcoming UEFA Europa League match against Olympiakos.
Troyes began to apply pressure late on, with Renaud Ripart almost scoring when his shot bounced off the post, and Christ Batola also had chances but failed. Marseille seemed to have lost control and was under great pressure from the home team. However, an unexpected situation occurred when Faris Moumbagna was fouled in the penalty area by Beach, and Himad Abdelli stepped up to take a successful penalty kick, sealing a 2-0 victory for the away team. This was an important victory that helped Marseille escape the relegation zone.
What happens next
Marseille will need to maintain this winning momentum as they prepare for their next match in the UEFA Europa League. Coach Bruno Génésio will likely continue to adjust the squad to optimize attack power, especially when the team is looking for a higher position in the Ligue 1 rankings.
