Francesco Lodi, former Napoli player, made remarkable statements about young talent Antonio Vergara on the Radio Marte program. Lodi expressed his impression with Vergara's performance last season and emphasized his new role as central midfielder.
Lodi said: "I'm very happy for him, because for a Napoli person to play for Napoli is a great thing. I'm happy that the club has put its trust in a player from its academy. Vergara was very patient, did not give up and always tried his best. This is not easy, especially when having to sit on the bench for a long time. When given the opportunity, he showed excellent performances. Thanks to that, Vergara proved to the players other young players that through effort and talent, they can also shine. He deserves the long-term contract he just signed."
In particular, Lodi emphasized that Vergara can play very well in the central midfielder role. "I always thought he could take on this position, and shine even more when playing from the back, than when playing as a winger. From the right wing, with his left foot, he has the ability to control the ball and support the striker, and can also take shots. In the 4-3-3 formation, I see him very suitable for the right central midfielder role, able to move deep thanks to his physical strength, speed and endurance. Coach Allegri sees qualities in him that can become a decisive factor for Napoli. He can also improve his tackling and defending ability. This is a role that is very suitable for him, and he can also play as an attacking midfielder.
Lodi's statements not only show great expectations for Vergara but are also a reminder of the importance of perseverance and effort in football. With what he has shown, Vergara will definitely be a notable name in the Napoli squad next season.
What happens next
With his new role as a central midfielder, Vergara may have many opportunities to show his abilities next season. If he continues to maintain good form, he can become an important part of coach Allegri's strategy, helping Napoli compete more strongly in Serie A.
