Why this is important
Coach Mourinho's statement about no player being guaranteed an official position at Real Madrid emphasizes the fierce competition within the squad. Vinicius Junior, despite being one of the brightest stars, is facing great pressure due to unstable performance. This could affect Real Madrid's season as they are aiming for success in La Liga and the Champions League.

During the press conference before the match against RB Leipzig in round three of the Champions League qualifying round, coach Jose Mourinho made strong statements about the competition in the Real Madrid squad. He asserted that no player, regardless of name or seniority, is guaranteed an official position in the squad. Mourinho emphasized that "only the Real Madrid symbol is sacrosanct" and required each player to prove his ability on the field.
Mourinho mentioned the case of Vinicius Junior, a player who is under a lot of pressure because of his poor performance and has only scored one goal in all competitions this season. In the previous match against Roma, Vinicius was replaced in the 59th minute when Real Madrid was leading 1-3, and Endrick, the young player who replaced him, made a big impression with a goal and an assist, contributing to Real's successful comeback.
With Vinicius' absence due to suspension in La Liga, Yan Diomande was trusted by Mourinho to take on the left striker position, and this player performed well in the 4-1 win against Sevilla. These results raise questions about Real Madrid's ability to perform better without Vinicius.
However, Mourinho still defended Vinicius, confirming that this player will start in the match against Leipzig, while Diomande's ability to play remains open. Currently, Real Madrid is having a good record with two wins in the Champions League against Inter Milan and Roma, but Mourinho does not think his team is the top candidate for the championship.
"Currently, our goal is not to win the Champions League, but to qualify for the knock-out round. We need to accumulate enough points before thinking about avoiding the play-off round," Mourinho said. He emphasized that Real Madrid needs to rise in the rankings to avoid tense matches in the knockout rounds.
In the context of La Liga, Real Madrid is six points behind Barcelona before the next El Clasico match. The pressure to achieve is causing Mourinho to constantly adjust personnel and tactics, with notable changes such as placing Arda Guler in central midfield and creating opportunities for Diomande and Endrick.
Although there have been improvements in playing style, Mourinho still believes that Real Madrid still has a lot of work to do to achieve the model he wants. He also rejected the notion that he is a rigid coach who only pursues a single system.
Finally, Mourinho emphasized the importance of players understanding each other better to be able to coordinate better on the field, and reaffirmed that he was prepared for all pressure at Real Madrid, where he had high hopes for the team's development.
What happens next
Vinicius Junior is expected to return to the main squad in the match against RB Leipzig, which could be an opportunity for him to reaffirm his value. The emergence of Yan Diomande as left striker could create stiffer competition for Vinicius' position. Real Madrid will need the contributions of both of these players to maintain good form in the current La Liga season.
