Stefano Pioli, the coach who once led AC Milan and Fiorentina, was seen in Naples the day before the match between Napoli and Roma in Serie A. According to information from TuttoMercatoWeb, Pioli was out of work and was seen walking in the autumn sunshine in this city last Friday.
Both CalcioNapoli1926 and TuttoMercatoWeb emphasized that Pioli's arrival is not necessarily related to Napoli's coaching situation, as Massimiliano Allegri still enjoys support from the club's board of directors. However, Pioli's presence in this city, just one day before the important match, will certainly make many people suspicious, especially when his name has been mentioned in connection with Napoli in recent weeks.
Allegri and his students are currently ranked 9th in Serie A with only 10 points after 7 matches, this is their worst start in the past 17 years. The 0-1 loss to Venezia, the team at the bottom of the table, last weekend caused Allegri to face many questions about his leadership ability.
However, a 4-3 victory over Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League last Tuesday helped Napoli get their first point in this tournament, somewhat easing the pressure on Allegri. A positive result against Roma, the team currently ranked 3rd on the rankings, will help him alleviate criticism from fans and the media.
Pioli won the Scudetto with AC Milan in 2022 and has been without a team since leaving Fiorentina. His appearance in Naples in this context is making headlines and many are waiting to see if anything new happens in the near future.
What happens next
If Napoli can win against Roma, this will significantly improve the team's mentality and could create momentum for a more positive season. On the contrary, if they continue to fail, the possibility of Allegri having to leave the coaching position will be higher, especially when the name Stefano Pioli is being mentioned. This match is not only a score battle but also a test for Allegri's future in Serie A.
