According to information from "Sports 3", Chelsea is planning to strengthen its defense in the upcoming January transfer window. This London team is aiming to re-sign Jules Koundé, a player they have been tracking for more than 18 months.
Koundé, currently playing for Barcelona, is said to be unhappy with his position on the team, as he often has to play against his strengths. Coach Xavi Hernandez has used Koundé more in the right-back position, while the center-back position is his preferred position. Chelsea, under the direction of coach Xabi Alonso, is looking for a new defender to strengthen their defense, especially after Reece James, their captain, suffered long-term injuries.
Knowing of Chelsea's interest, the Spanish team will demand a fee of at least £50 million for Koundé, who is still under contract until 2030. Despite financial difficulties, Chelsea are said to have begun contact with Koundé's representatives to assess his potential transfer. This is a move that shows that Chelsea is determined to improve the strength of its squad before entering the decisive phase of the season.
Chelsea's pursuit of Koundé not only demonstrates their ambition to compete in the Premier League but also shows that they are preparing for bigger challenges in the European arena. Koundé has a lot of experience playing in La Liga and the Champions League, which will be a valuable addition to Chelsea's defense.
With these moves, it is clear that Chelsea is in the process of restructuring the squad with the goal of winning major titles in the future. They will need to act quickly to complete this deal before the transfer market opens.
What happens next
Chelsea is expected to continue to contact Koundé's representative to discuss the possibility of a transfer during the January transfer window. If this deal is successful, Koundé can become an important part of coach Xabi Alonso's strategy to improve the strength of the defense.
